i forgot i guess i can probably post this picture now
no you guys don’t understand
i’m not making fun of kim kardashian for reading nietzsche, i think it is awesome that kim kardashian is reading nietzsche. nietzsche is not just for self-styled intellectuals okay nietzsche is for everybody
i bought FFXIII yesterday because claire’s in new york for a few days and i was kind of getting into a weird zone creatively and needed a break from working on the thing i am working on that is almost done for a little bit. i haven’t been able to play it until now, i stayed out of this console generation for the most part and didn’t finally go in on it until ni no kuni came out a couple months ago or whenever it was
this game kind of sucks! i mean it hasn’t really opened up yet, but i’ve read that one of the complaints about it is that it’s functionally kind of like a very long tutorial for not much actual game so who knows how far i actually am in it. one thing i’m realizing about JRPGs in this console generation is that voice acting COMPLETELY changes the experience of playing one - the voice acting on FFX was really jarring to me but i’ve played every single other numbered FF game so when i think about the series as a whole it doesn’t really bother me too much. the voice acting on FFXII and the plotting in general was a lot easier to deal with so i think i had mentally just sort of viewed it as a course correction after a momentary stumble with X and was not really stressed about the state of the franchise or of JRPGs in general - with FFXII and DQVIII i felt like they had pretty much struck a good balance between graphics/voice acting/story-driven content and actual gameplay but this game is kind of dire so far
it’s sort of scary to consider what JRPGs and the FF franchise must look like to people who are coming into it via X and XIII - like if my first JRPG had been this game and not secret of mana or FFVI or chrono trigger or FFVII or even FFI or dragon warrior i’m not sure i’d ever have wanted to play another one
anyway i guess i’m gonna keep going with it for the sake of completism and hope it gets better at some point
