She embodies this sweet 1950s red lipstick retro innocence yet quite obviously has a LOT of boyfriends that seem to come and go casually. Nothing wrong with any of it but why try selling one idea whilst you are living the other?
yeah i mean i don’t really think she’s selling virginal purity or whatever. like a lot of people point to her song “15” as being like sex-negative or slut-shaming, but it is a song that is about having sex when you are fifteen years old, which is a much more complicated thing that people generally have much more divided opinions about than having sex as an adult regardless of your gender. on her new album, there is a song called “22” that she has called a thematic sequel to 15 that is a fun pop song that ends with her saying “you look like bad news, i’ve gotta have you”
like i’ve listened to the taylor swift album 100 times and there’s nothing on there that says “retro innocence” to me. there’s a song where she describes having an argument with a love interest and then working through it the next morning, there’s a song where she says “it feels like a perfect night to fall in love with strangers” or something like that, like there’s nothing on there that’s all like “SEX IS BAD, I DON’T EVER HAVE IT, YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE IT EITHER, UNLESS YOU’RE MARRIED, AND DON’T FORGET THAT MARRIAGE IS BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN”
like by and a large it seems to me like people are just projecting those sentiments onto her because of how she looks or because of the kind of music she makes and i don’t really like people judging me or projecting stuff onto me because of the way i look or because of the kind of music that i make so my natural impulse is to stick up for her here
