this is one of the “friday playlists” that they post sometimes over at rookie. every time i see one of these things i am always just completely blown away by how carefully and beautifully curated they always are, how they pull from a really wide breadth of different music and a really deep and intimate knowledge of it, but without ever being anything but crowd-pleasingly heartfelt and unpretentious. there is just so much here - like if someone had given me something this rich and generous when i was a teenager, my entire life might have been different. genres have been founded on the back of less substance than what is contained in this playlist
like grimes and lana del rey and “everything is embarrassing” but also nick cave and the bad seeds and the microphones and antony and the cocteau twins and also the mountain goats song that is probably obviously most likely to make sense to people who have never heard the mountain goats and also the wilco song that is maybe not obviously the wilco song that would most make sense to people who have never heard wilco before but is retrospectively probably their best song and actually definitely the best point of entry available for anyone hearing them just now that is predisposed to care
i have other thoughts about this but i am too high to articulate them
i just really like and appreciate rookie though, it’s a very good website, it gives me positive feelings about humanity
